Those of you who are regular readers of mine know that, in November, I launched a website called BoaterMouth. It combines the daily blog from my website CharterWave with 11 blogs by some of my most trusted fellow marine journalists, who cover everything from helm electronics to fishboats to megayachts.

Today, a partnership deal is being announced that will syndicate the BoaterMouth content at Boats.com and YachtWorld.com, which are the world’s leading new- and brokerage-boat search websites with a combined monthly audience of 3.5 million boating enthusiasts.

I’m thrilled about the partnership, which will combine brokerage listings with editorial content in a way never before attempted online, before an audience larger than that of every U.S. marine magazine, combined.

Just a few hours ago, Ocean Independence distributed the newest edition of its newsletter, which includes some interesting data about the brokerage industry.

According to the newsletter, Northrop and Johnson currently has the largest number of CAs for sale, followed by Fraser Yachts Worldwide, Camper and Nicholsons International, Ocean Independence, Burgess Yachts, Edmiston and Company, International Yacht Collection, Merle Wood and Associates, and YPI Group.

When that list is adjusted to correspond with the total LOA of all listings for sale, the order is Fraser Yachts Worldwide, Camper and Nicholsons International, Northrop and Johnson, Ocean Independence, Burgess Yachts, Edmiston and Company, Merle Wood and Associates, International Yacht Collection, and YPI Group.

Though far smaller than the Superyachting Index that Camper & Nicholsons has released the past two years, this new data from Ocean Independence does have similarities. And, as with any industry, he who collects the data gets to frame it.

The way Ocean Independence interprets this newly released data: “We are happy not to be number one as we are a company without elitist views which delivers services to a wide range of clients.”

RJC Yachts just wrote in to let me know that the company has sold two motoryachts in a single week.

First was the 82-foot Monte Fino Prime Time, a 2002 build.

Second was the 61-foot Viking Jenny O, a 2005 build.

Good stuff. Here’s hoping the pace continues, not only at RJC but across all size categories in the brokerage industry.

This is Sean Noel, the newest sales associate with Curtis Stokes & Associates.

Noel’s expertise is in yachts 50 to 100 feet long, the company says. He holds a 200-ton USCG Masters license and was most recently captain aboard the 87-foot Warren motoryacht AnnaSophia in Florida, the Bahamas and the Northeast.  Noel also previously worked for Warren Yachts as fleet manager, service director, and customer relations manager.

AnnaSophia is Noel’s first listing with Curtis Stokes. The yacht’s owner is asking $4.95 million, and the boat will be on display at the Palm Beach Boat Show in late March. Here’s a photo of her:

The new edition of Fraser Yachts Worldwide’s newsletter is out, and though it offers some sobering news about the state of the charter industry this winter, it also provides a hint of hope that the brokerage market may be improving.

Fraser reports that December sales “were encouraging,” with boats being sold in all size ranges–though a good number of sales included trades of smaller yachts.

Most significant, perhaps, is that Fraser says current sellers “seem more resigned” to the fact that brokerage prices are not likely to move upward anytime soon, at least not noticeably. In the early weeks of this month, the company says, searches have been serious among boat buyers.

While not an ideal situation for sellers, this may indicate that the market has in fact bottomed out, and that boats may begin selling again at a more rapid pace.

Northrop and Johnson says the owner of the 55-foot Hinckley Talaria Thunder has reduced the yacht’s asking price to $2.4 million.

The price drop comes after more creative sales incentives failed to bring a buyer. In August 2009, for instance, Thunder’s owner was offering a 2010 E-Class Mercedes to anyone who bought the boat before the end of that month.

Kevin Merrigan in the Fort Lauderdale office is the listing sales broker.

Broker Curtis Stokes of the eponymous, Fort Lauderdale-named agency has formed a partnership with Baltimore-based Marinalife to offer the broker’s clients immediate access to cruising services.

Anyone who buys a yacht through Curtis Stokes during 2010 will be entitled to free Marinalife membership. Existing Curtis Stokes clients are being offered a free, two-month trial membership, with discounted rates available for premium Marinalife memberships.

“The extensive marina database and reliable travel tools offered by Marinalife will undoubtedly make boating easier and more enjoyable for all our clients and customers,” Stokes said in a press release.

Lots of news this week from Fraser Yachts Worldwide, which reports four recent sales, one new listing for sale, and one major price reduction.

The price reduction is for the 100-foot Debirs Little Sarah, which is listed with broker Jürgen Koch in Palma de Mallorca. The owner previously was asking €4.1 million, and now is asking €3.5 million.

Newly listed for sale with brokers James Nason and Patrick McConnell, both in the San Diego office, is the 73-foot Jefferson Sabbatical. Asking price is $1.55 million.

• 169-foot Alloy Kokomo, whose new owner was represented by broker Antoine Larricq of the Monaco office
• 111-foot Christensen Exuma C, which was listed with broker David Legrand in Monaco
• 74-foot CNB Le Cochon Noir, also listed with Legrand
• 90-foot Moonen Commercial Break, whose new owner was represented by broker Jan Jaap Minnema of the Monaco office

Big news–and I do mean big–from Camper & Nicholsons International, where Monaco-based broker Alex Lees Buckley has signed a 140-meter (that’s 459 feet!) new build project.

The seven-deck yacht, known as Hull 6218, is to be designed by Espen Oeino with an interior by Alberto Pinto and Laura Sessa, and construction at Fincantieri. Launch is scheduled for 2015.

Camper says special attention will be paid to environmental friendliness, quality, and performance. There’s no mincing words in this promotional quote from the company: “She will undoubtedly be the most technically advanced yacht in the world.”
